Yeah curious too. Because I've seen some pretty obnoxious ones. That were obvious what they meant. My fav of all time is
RB 1 OT. No idea how that one got approved.

might be California specific, but the dmv here isn't ignorant to the confusing number scheme to throw off law enforcement. I don't think it would get approved, but maybe i overstated it. Pretty sure it won't

Well the moral of that story, 'being worried about someone writing down your plate or law enforcement', is to not drive like an idiot and give them a reason to memorize/ write it down..

We were involved in a hit and run a few years ago. We thought the vanity plates read "GRNRIVR" actually read "GRNR1VR". Took the cop about 2 min to figure it out. Mixing in numbers is no problem for them.

i'm not suggesting mixing in number is an issue. I suspect DMV wont approve if it appears as though its trying to confuse law enforcement. I could be wrong

I roll with my HAM Callsign as my plate since in Idaho it was only $5 extra for the personal vanity plate. Most states likely have a similar option for licensed amateurs.

Nah. Get one of your initial ideas. Theyre good ones! And remember, they might be taken already. You can fill out the form online without purchasing, and it'll tell you if it's available or not.
