had my truck for a few month now, 4500 mile. i never really use my tailgate at all, last time i open it was about a month ago. went to open it this morning to load some box and it didn't come down slowly, but it also didn't slam down too. anyone else have this issue? made an appointment with my dealer to have it check along with the tsb. hope they fix it.

Curious. Why did you buy a truck?

    Not being sarcastic, genuinely wondering.

I'm an outdoor person, been fishing since i was 5 year old and hunting the moment i was old enough to get a license. it perfect for pulling my two boat (18' bass boat/15' duck boat). get me where i need to go for hunting, unless it a really bad road then I'm taking my brother 01 ac tacoma. i also love the look and tech in it. only issue i have was my bsm going out and my tailgate.

Plenty of ways to make use of a truck without the need to open the tailgate. I load my portable air tank and small generator over the bed rail. Toolbox mounted on the bed so all tools go in there. The only time I really open my tailgate is when I need a "table" to replace c.v. boots on an atv axle.

Real men never open their tailgates. They lift whatever they need over the sides or tailgate leaving it closed, no matter how big or heavy it is. :) But seriously, I don't open mine that often because most of what I carry goes in the truck box and any time I carry something that I can lift over I am too lazy to walk around the back to open the tailgate. Sometimes I'm so stupid that I will struggle lifting something over for a few minutes before thinking "Hey, wouldn't it be faster/easier to just drop the tailgate?" I think it comes from working too long in higher education.

depending on when you got your truck, parts have changed. i had a plastic bushing go bad and they ordered the part twice only to find out the male part on the passenger side has been altered since original making the part they ordered not fit for me. i could take pictures to explain better but hopefully no one else has this problem.

This is the new bushing. It is part of the passenger side assembly. When my old one broke they ordered the part and said when they tried to install it wouldn't fit. They thought maybe they ordered the wrong part. Order another , that doesn't fit either. After calling and some investigation apparently Toyota changed the size of the male part it slides over. It's connected to the truck not the tailgate. Just a peg basically. So they had to order the updated male part. Finally just got it all put on. Although when they put it all back together, they didn't line up the right side bumper gap with the left. Kinda got a shrug when I pointed it out haha. I can get some more pictures if needed, hope I explained that we'll enough.

I recently came across this issue and have developed a fix for this. I'll be creating a thread with pictures soon.
