This^^^^. Got my truck on Tuesday and I am waiting for the Pop n Lock to arrive to install it.

If you have the back up camera, make sure you always keep it locked. No tailgate is safe but the backup camera is the one they want the most.

Its just like the 3rd row seats in the Tahoe and other large SUVs. One day at the office, 4 SUVs had the 3rd row seat stolen out of them. All while in the parking lot during office hours!!!

Mine locks automatically with my key fob, but this has me thinking I'll add the hoseclamp trick to it just for backup.

You are right, respect for other’s property is diminishing, and so is respect for others. I think “this guy” would have been enough of a description, thanks.

What's funny though, is when this happens, the first thing people tell you to do is go on Craigslist and try to find a cheap new one... well guess where that guy probably got that cheap tailgate from...

Damn... Hose clamp mod was the very first mod I did on my truck. Can't believe not a single person saw someone stealing a tailgate and didn't speak up!

Been on fence to purchase this since i know numerous people with tailgates stolen and my dads now. His tailgate was locked. If someone was to use a flathead screwdriver they could break the lock out and open in and take it. I know turd gens have locks but i think ill protect myself after seeing this post. Just purchased mine now.

Wrapped metal Zip ties around tailgate hinge, Hose clamp on top of that, pop n lock, tonneau cover = peace of mind.

Even if I forget to lock my tailgate which is very rare, the metal zip ties/hose clamp should slow them down. I figured I’ll never need to remove my tailgate, and even if wanted to, it’d be a pain in the ass for me to, so those thrives looking for easy scores should have trouble as well.

The back up camera is cheap and they usually cut the harness for it, so how do you figure that’s what thieves want?

There is nothing else on a vehicle that has more value and is taken with less ease than a tailgate. Literally seconds to remove, it’s quiet work requiring no tools, and it can be a several hundred dollar payday for each.

Whoever mentioned body shops - no body shop is buying stuff from a guy who walks up with body parts. Maybe Bumfuck Bob’s Auto Body in Mayberry, but other than that there is no incentive and all risk. Just like a pawn shop who purchases stolen goods. They pay for them, and if it comes back then that item is retrieved and they’re left without an item and without the money paid for it. Aftermarket wholesale prices are dirt cheap, and labor and materials to prep and paint are all billable hours which is how they stay in business. Not by buying parts out back from strangers.
