I have a 2001 Double cab Tacoma. The other day I notice no dash light?!! Some guy pulls along side hollers "hey buddy, you got no tail lights." I locate the 10 A fuse under the hood for the dash/tail lights. It is blown. Replace it and turn on the light, blows again. I went to parts store and was told to disconnect the tail lights turn on lights. If fuse blows problem is in the dash, if not problem is in the tail lights. Disconnected tail lights and fuse did not blow. Problem is in the tail! I went to Tacoma world and find some talk about checking the tail light bubs for corrosion, the trailer connector wiring then someone mention the trailer harness behind the driver's side tail light! Found it is known to corrode and cause short. I notice the markings to truck and to trailer. Notices wiring for each light. Only one needed to be cut. I cut the tail light wire between the truck and the harness. Problem solve. Only need to replace harness box if I pull a trailer which needs tail lights.
