    These look cool.
    are they dumb?

I heard in reality, it just increases the risk of damaging your bedside
Apparently if they get caught on something it will bend into it

And im not sure if the addition of it adds impeding visible light from the tails (safety)

    what sayeth ye?

Are they functional or just look tough? How hard of an impact can they take without hitting the lens or the bracket bending sheet metal? Plastic is expensive, but probably not as expensive as body work. I agree, they don't look bad, I just don't have a need. I wouldn't worry about impeding light.

    I’m lazy.
I take my truck through the car wash.
Don’t think those would be a good idea on my truck.

I suppose under limited circumstances, they might help.
But realistically, I’d say the they won’t help with most accidents.
Those cross bars are thin, I don’t see them helping a lot.

If you like them, that’s all that matters.
    Stick them on.

Except for the surround style for FJ-40s and such, most of the tail light protectors I've seen that actually took a hit caused body damage and/or the light was still damaged. Around here it's just something to get a limb caught in. I don't think they look bad, they're just not worth it to me. JMHO

2x now he has tagged the trash can on the way out of his driveway and broken his tail light [cover]

I wouldn't put em on my truck tho . .

funny thing is he is actually a good driver and can back up a big ass trailer like nothing
IDK how he managed to do it 2x in a matter of 6 months -

i wish he would just back-in like the rest of us; only household that backs out of their driveway on my street

wow, i use to back my quad cab F350 with and 8ft box into my driveway on the small lane i lived off of. in my first town house. did rub the neighbor girls car once with a tire while she was half way across the drive way. text her dad, and said if there is dammage let me know, ill fix it. he said something along the lines of, screw her id have driven your truck right over the back of that damn car she needs to learn how to park it not in your driveway, she has already hit plenty of stuff with it.

There's no off-set to that guard: it's millimeters from the tail-lamp. If you back into something that's high enough for the guard to "guard" the tail-lamp, you'll be replacing the guard ($?), the tail-lamp ($$) and fixing the damage to the fender and the tailgate. ($$$$) ....and your bumper will be a mess too. They're a pretty low-key addition. I'd say: if you like the looks, then keep them. YMMV

They are very thin material, function over form is always my motto but to each their own. Here is my tail light guards similar look but made from .120 steel and welded to the bumper not bolted to the tail light mounts

I was looking at the set on Amazon. They might thwart a 2×4 or a metal pipe from going through your tail light, if you do a lot of loading/unloading?
    I do not.
They would look alright with an appropriate grill guard or stubby bumper.
