Is there any compelling reason to go with a Toyota replacement over a less expensive aftermarket rear taillight Ass.?

Quality. OEM is typically made better. But there are a few aftermarket units that hold up well. I've been running an aftermarket LED set I picked up off fleabay for over a year with no issues. I'd recommend putting a bead of silicon on the aftermarket set just to be sure they don't leak.

I replaced mine with ebay led versions and have had no problems for years. OEM is not always the best option, $$$ being one reason.
