Hey guys, I've got a question.
My taco is a 98 Prerunner. Is it possible to swap out the taillights for the ones off the facelifted first gens?(2000-2004)
Anyone got good recommendations for lights?

Three series of 1st gens 95.5-97, 98-00, 01-04. Believe between all of them the tailights are interchangeable. That's said though the 01-04 tailights will work fine on 95.5-00 trucks. But anyone going from a 01-04 to 95.5-00 they will need to do some rewiring for the grounding harness.

A company spyder headlights makes quite a bit of aftermarket replacement styles for our trucks.

physically, maybe... but the wiring for each is not the same.

If one is going to purchase tail lights for their '95.5 - '04 Tacoma...
good idea to purchase the tail lights that will Plug n Play for the correct years.
otherwise one may be left scratching their head trying to figure out how to re-wire them.

It's the actual tail light's wiring harness/plugs on the tail light that are different.
And has to do with where the ground is in relation of the plug's pins/wires.

Can it be done... sure... but it's a pita and requires know how / addl. effort
and they won't be P&P until those differences are corrected.

If you end up purchasing a different model year tail light...
we'll likely see you coming back on here, hoping someone can resolve your issues.
Not worth the hassle nor time spent IMO.

Get the correct tail light for the specific model year you have.

These three 1st gen Tacoma's tail lights will not swap out easily.
And are definitely not going to be Plug n Play.

    '95.5 - '97

    '98 - '00

    '01 - '04

I currently run ebay specials on my '00 (maybe $ 50.00ish stmd)
They are designed specifically for my model's year and are plug n play.

But I've had several different tail lights in the past.
And many options are or were available back then.
Not sure what is currently offered now.

    ebay shiny bling...

    ebay clear lens/colored bulbs...

    sometimes tail lights become submerged...
can become a problem if the don't seal well.

    OP,
which tail light exactly do you wish to swap out to ?
