As you can tell by my username, I don’t have the financial means to build a real pre runner. But I love the look. So, that is where my taco is at currently.
This is related to the rear end. specifically that empty spot you are left with underneath the tail lights after removing the rear bumper on the 2nd gens.
I removed the rear bumper, replaced with solid tube spanning the frame rails, and HC cut the bedsides.
I have scoured the internet with every word-combo I can come up with trying to find a product or diy for this specific thing, with no luck.
I’m aware that this cut is primarily for adding a HC bumper that typically have a cover piece welded there.
I have no plans to purchase or build a full HC bumper at the moment, but those empty spots bug the hell out of me.
Currently working on fabricating my own covers out of heat moldable plastic as I dont have the means to work with sheet metal. but am running into complications with the molding and lack of mounting points. I have some ideas but before I go drilling holes I wanted to reach out and see if anyone has heard of anything like this? Does anyone make something like this? Anyone diy anything similar?
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

These are the black plastic moulding pieces for those corners on my 2008. They should be the same for yours? Just did a complete OEM bumper and all new parts including the bumper Reinforcement bar that bolts to the factory hitch and that the OEM bumper mounts to.. Hendricks Toyota of Apex online.

These are the old ones I replaced with new OEM. Took the photos and sent them to Hendricks and they found the perfect fit parts! I bought all my parts from them. Had the bumper painted to Silver Streak Mica by a local shop ... perfect new bumper, parts, hardware, to stock for the model! Great online genuine Toyota parts source!
