    Got it all primed and painted over the weekend. Had some time this morning so I took off the hose clamp and installed the anti-theft device. Took a couple of pictures showing before and after.

    Hey guys, I didn't know the stealing of tailgates was such a widespread problem.

    I installed this in my 2nd gen a few years ago because I was worried about contents of the bed being stolen, not the tailgate itself.

    Can someone steal my tailgate even if it's locked? Do the 3rd gens have an electronic lock on the tailgate, if yes, why do you need to install this piece of steel to hide the mounting point?

    You can jerk the handle and break the plastic handle, reach in with a screwdriver, bam ur in.
    Steel is alot stronger than cheap plastic, it's just another way to deter tweaks and theives. I used to make a steel handle replacement for the pop n lock that was really nice and strong but there was no interest so I stopped making them. Just make sure u lube the clasps on ur tailgate and ur pop n lock will last forever, just my 2 cents..
