It's much cheaper than a new tailgate

    Finally got to installing mine.

Tried my 1/4” impact driver first, no dice. Got out my 1/2” breaker bar and the old screw came right out.
I painted it with Rustoleum Royal red. It’s definitely not a perfect match to Barcelona but for where it is the color is fine

Hey guys and @christian06 quick question. I’m painting the ATD and I noticed even after 4 coats of Krylon Fusion Paint+ Primer I have a small little spot that doesn’t seem to be getting paint. I even went over it a couple coats after spotting it Any ideas? Will I still be okay? Rest looks smooth and nice wet gloss like 2nd picture shows the focus best. Thanks for your help.

It'll be fine. If it triggers your OCD like it would mine, you could always hit it again after it dries. Just keep it clean.

Haha yeah it kinda got to me, but I know I’ll end up messing up the whole thing if i try and pick at that one spot - wish he had offered them painted already. But damn I thought I did a good job for an absolute noob at it. Even cleaned it nice with an alcohol wipe before painting

Do you think it was just a portion of the metal that’s somehow not accepting the paint for some reason ? Will it leave it vulnerable ? It’s very small and the rest seems fine is why i ask

Maybe it has some residue on it,
If you like I can send out another one with a prepaid envelope to send that one back, it's up to you.
    I've never encountered this before.

Scuff the metal with sandpaper prior to painting. With it the way it is now, wait for it to dry, scuff the paint with sandpaper and re coat. I gave mine a quick sand before paint and it came out perfect.

Well I’m repainting it but I attempted the existing T40 bolt and had no problems with exception of the clearance getting the bolt to back out. Did you guys use a smaller length torx bit and if so where did u find it ? Pic depicting what I’m talking about Bc I don’t have enough room between the bumper edge and my ratchet with torx bit to clear. I had no problems breaking the bolt loose tho. Possibly that old man strength

Tilt the tailgate out and remove or remove the driver and use your hand.

Well another trip to Lowes and i found this torx bit built into a socket. (Only had 3/8) but that’s ok. Make sure u have the tools for this job guys! Lol.
-set of torx bits from harbor freight (fail)
    -paint
-another trip to Lowes for new torx bit on socket lol.
I’ll never complain about a chance to buy new tools but I’m working my way towards a tailgate replacement now lol. This thing better save my gate! Thanks again guys

So does this thing fit kinda snug in there ? Aka: do you have to kinda maneuver/wedge it to work it’s way around that curved top portion? Is it meant to be installed with the gate down as normal or does it require any lifting or tilt angling ? Sorry just the instructions are kinda vague. Thanks Remove that one screw in front and slap it in and then screw down the torque thing ?

It is highly recommended that you remove the tailgate, then the torx. It's much less fuss, takes literally 5 seconds to remove.
