Sorry I didn't take a picture but it was getting dark and I just wanted to put everything away. Finally after two nights of fiddling with that stinking bolt, I drilled out the darn thing. I went to the hardware store today and purchase several types of new bolts just in case. Good thing too. I had to remove the cover to the tailgate anyways to get the remaining bolt that I drilled out the night before; and when I inserted the new correct size bolt, of course it was now too small. Guess I went a little crazy with the drilling the night before. Good thing I had a washer and nut that fit the new bolt. I inserted the bracket, by the way, the easies part of this job, only took me like 30 seconds. I put the new bolt through the bracket and through the hole, and while I had access to the inside of the tailgate now, I tighted with an allen wrench, and 13mm wrench from inside of gate. I had it painted to match truck color, now looks stock and functions as advertised. I dunno how you all removed that bolt without stripping. I removed the tailgate and tried with several types of torx wrenches but all it took was a little bit of pressure and strips ahoy matty. I am just happy I finished installing this product, nicely done and will now give me peace of mind in case ever I forget to lock my tailgate. Thanks christian06 for making this product and selling it to us Taco-maniacs! LOL Tony

I quick update to my install. Since I had to actually cut part of the sealer off at the corner of the tailgate interior to make sure the bracket would fit between it and the mount, I was worried that no sealer would eventually be a problem with water. So I took the corner of the tailgate off the mount and squirted two coats of black FlexSeal on the corner so I could sleep at night. It didn't raise the profile but by a mm or 2. As I let that dry, I color coded a new m8 1.25 hex bolt. The OEM torque bolt was, although viable, damaged and changing it to something unexpected like a hex bolt would slow a potential thief down even more. Once that was dry, I reinstalled it with pliers and I'm good to go! Thanks again for making these available @christian06 .

I've had this thing for a few weeks now. That screw is nearly stripped and I don't want to drill it out. :lalala:

FRICK! Just stripped the bolt. There's NO way anyone is getting it off without heat or drilling out.

a longer torx bolt not needed to allow for anti theft device material (1/4 inch/6.35 mm)
or nah. thinking of what materials needed prior to install/ in case of fubar the original torx, if even ANY damage to it. for the case if/when that T40 bastard ever needs removal in the future. and tool shopping for the impact(manual/hammer) driver. and a fresh 1/2" impact? T40. i am sure i have at least one T40 around but tools not been fully organized since i have moved.
    thanks again.

$20-30 part needs same if not more in tools (if you do not have ALL the tools to begin with). it's all good, more tools = more fun. and p
    future preparedness :) right?

You can use your oem screw that you took off, the hole icon chamfered so the material is less than what the screw is sticking out the back side, hope that makes since, lol
