My gen 3 showed up today.... very quickly too! Metalworking looks great... it’s thick 1/4” material with nice metalworking details. Definitely not a garage quality production... much nicer. After I get some paint on I will update with more pics.

Ok so ran into an issue trying to remove my tailgate bolt. I knew they were tight from feedback, but even using an impact driver (kind you hit with hammer) and/or a 1/2” breaker bar that was 36” long wouldn’t budge my screw. I looked up the Toyota part so I can just drill out the screw and replace it... look at their anti removal feature. Silly Toyota. Replacement screw is part # 9014980020

    A984B6D3-7AB8-4CBF-B00D-9301E1BC52AE.jpg

Update: I drilled out the original screw that was stripped out. Took all of about 15 seconds to drill out the head, and then I figured it would be easy out time for the shank of the bolt. It ended up drilling very easily, and once the drill bit dug in, the portion of the bolt threaded through until it popped into the inside of the tailgate. I was then able to simple put the tailgate onto the truck and then affix the bracket with new screw. Totally satisfied and happy to have this installed.

    Thanks for making these!!

Got mine installed today. A little struggle at first but after that is a piece of cake to removed the bolt. My advice is don't use the power tool or you will strip the bolt.

I paint it with red caliper paint. And use a body bolt at Lowes'.

Finally put mine on after ordering a couple months ago.

No need to heat it up, use a pipe (breaker bar) over top of the ratchet so you can get leverage to break the bolt loose.

Also, if you have an aftermarket bumper like I do and the ends stick out, it’ll keep you from getting the straight torx bit in there when installing. I bought a slightly longer M8 1.25 25mm allen head bolt which worked perfect for installing since I could get the Allen key in there to tighten up.

Like others could not get the screw out and stripped the head. So I just drilled the POS out and installed a stainless screw and lock nut.

Mostly stock. Icon wheels, running boards, sounds, custom grill, front camera.
Are you leaving it with that hex bolt or changing it? Because that bolt is easily removed by a thief with a crescent wrench.

I use that hex bolt just because i couldn't find anything better. But I'll change it to M8 1.25 25mm allen head bolt just like Grossomotto.

I'm pondering getting this, but it seems that it's intended for the right-side hinge; is there a version for the left hinge?

    Hello Tacoma Lovers,

I am new to the Forum and I am in upgrading and fixing up my 2005 Toyota Tacoma, and I have been searching for this kind of Tailgate anti-theft device.... Being that I am replacing the tailgate, and bumper and installing all new components, and upgrading to a new head unit, along with putting in a power pop and lock actuator unit,it only makes sense to make sure this truck is to last me for a long assed time,
so I am upgrading it and restoring it for my mother in laws deceased husband who was a retired Navy petty officer, and my deceased wife who ended up with the truck before she died,so I have been searching for a while.....and I am repainting and restoring the Interior as well for my Mother in Law,so in future travels she can have a smile on her face as we are boogieing down the road.....The person that is selling this device I would like to buy this product for my family's truck...I would appreciate it if you could P.M.me and I can touch base with you about getting one of these for my 2005 Tacoma 3dr 4 wheel drive.....Thanks and I will be waiting for your response....Manbreed AW
