I recommend taking the tailgate off to remove the T40 torx

I'll need to find a low profile solution as I have a bedrug installed that is attached to my tailgate - it would be a pain to remove.

If you look up in the thread you’ll see a couple of us have had success.

I used a punch and hit the T-40 a couple times (probably more LOL). Then I used a breaker bar and slowly turned and it came loose pretty easily.

Now I’m gonna add some Red Loctite this afternoon.

    Good luck.

Not as bad as striping the T40 torx, then youll have to take it off to fix that,

What about using a air impact wrench? I have a Dewalt that would take it off without breaking a sweat provided the bolt and bit held together.

Many have stripped and cursed using power vs leverage and finesse. Try it and see.

If you do that and it still disappears, they didn't steal it, they earned it.

Use a breaker bar (or a pipe over a ratchet) really slow steady and make sure the torx bit doesn’t come out of the screw head, it’s not a big screw.

That’s why an impact just strips it out in no time.
