I'm also interested in this for my 2008. Have the EZ Down but the cable is a problem to keep it from getting pinched.

I see people mention the part of the truck where it may be welded down. What about replacing the strap that's already there.

First pic is where the screws look welded in and there some weird star shaped.

Second pic is the peice I thought about replacing with a new EZ down strap. Would that work ?

    Yes
No you can't remove that and rely on the EZ down to hold your tailgate by itself, it is not strong enough.

Shoot. I forgot to send the coffee card. I got it I'll mail tomorrow.

Yes I did but it didn't fit. Got it on but the tailgate wouldn't shut there's no room for it. I still have it let me know if you want it back. Thanks it was worth a try.

I have this in mine. I like it for what it's for and only paid $30CAD for it.

Yes, the strap gets pinched and the vinyl sheeth has torn but really not a big deal, just might have to replace it down the line.
You also have the option of taking the strap off completely if you aren't going to be loading up much weight on your tailgate. One strap plus the hydraulic tube is plenty support for light/normal occasional use imo.

So no real good solution. We are stuck with our unassisted tailgates....

I think I will pick one up and see if butterflying some clamps will keep the cable properly routed.

Meh, this bent tailgate thing is overblown. Had serious weight on it, zero issue.

What's wrong with a dent or scratch or two? I was under the impression it's a truck? I thought it adds character lol.
