I was worried about plywood slipping off of the 2 boards in my 2013 4door tacoma bed, so I did the following $6 fix and it works great. The cables come off easily so I simply installed a couple cable 'back door shafts' (part # 00000999990020632082) in the top hole of the lock/latch striker. Just unhook and select your tailgate height.

I used one washer behind the new shaft and had to mark and grind a little on the female part to get it to fit, but it works well.

once I had both sides installed, I noticed it was not a perfect straight shot from tailgate to 2nd board to first board. The middle board was 3/4" lower. SO, being as anal as I am, I added a 3/4" piece of lumber under the ends of the middle board.

now, it is PERFECT. A straight shot with 3 support points AND it has a 2" downward slope to the front of the bed, exactly what i wanted. NOTE: mine is a five foot bed, not sure if this exact procedure would align for six foot bed. Do the tailgate first, then make boards the height that works for the six foot. Bed.

I like this a lot! I like your solution for leveling the middle board... Where did you buy the "back door shaft" you referenced with the part # 00000999990020632082?

Part came from Toyota dealer. Not sure if you need all the zeros and nines in front of the part number. I just gave you what was on the Toyota packaging.

Still can't seem to order the part number given.

Any chance of taking a picture of the package?

I just called the parts department of the dealership where I bought the truck. The guy I spoke with said that that number is NOT a Toyota part. Clearly it IS, since ducati2 bought them, but that's what he said.

I then described the part, he found it and ordered (2) of them for me, since they were not stocked. I did not get a part number, but will post it when the parts arrive. Oh, and they were $9/each, instead of $3/each. Go figure.

Again, thanks to ducati2, since this will prove to be really handy for me when hauling plywood or my kayaks.
