Can anybody tell me the height of their tailgate when opened from the ground? I'd like measurements of both 2wd and 4wd (or pre-runner). I'm probably buying a 2010+ or so Tacoma and want to haul a motorcycle occassionally and everything else we load in our trucks, and would like to know how high the beds are. My 1997 4wd tailgate is 33 inches high off the ground. Thanks in advance!

i have a ’07 4wd short bed. NO TSB spring. can get my dirt bike in the bed really easy. tail gate on dad’s 2000 4wd tundra is a little higher. and can get it in it as well.

Yeah I've hauled dirt bikes for years in mine and that's no problem....Now I have a street bike and am wanting a regular 2wd access cab. But the wife and I may wanna haul it in the back to go on vacation or something and I was wondering how high a non pre-runner 2wd access cab was...

    Yes Yoyoda, actually a Harley-Davidson Streetglide....#800 pounds

yea, my truck is pretty high with 32s and 3" lift. Im not small guy 6'4" 260lbs and my 400# gsxr1000 is kinda tough to get in there. Mainly due to the ramp angle so the bike bellies up on the tailgate...

    maybe get a trailer? lol

Yeah I've pulled the bike with a trailer, I have a utility trailer but we wanted to just be able to load the bike in the back and roll. I hate to drag a trailer when we go out of town...

this is a good idea! i have done it a when i can just to make it easer. but you still have to make you you can unload it on flat ground. because say you have a curb/hill or something at home you may not wear you take it (like for a trip) to unload it.

edit: my hole drive way is a hill so we have loaded the atv when it would not start to take it to the shop. and they have a lift that we got it down with.

I had the same concern as you and measured several trucks before making a purchase.

My stock 2012 PreRunner load height = 33", which is similar to most full size trucks.

I have easily loaded my sport bikes using this ramp: http://www.discountramps.com/big-boy-motorcycle-ramp.htm into the PreRunner.

I considered a base Tacoma, which has a 28" load height by the way, but once you consider the length of the ramp, there is only a few degrees of incline difference between the two. Get the truck you like.

Yes wolfpack 5150, I just needed the 2wd height. I can go to my local dealer but was hoping someone on here has one in their garage they could measure for me...

You are right jgrm1, only a few degrees of incline difference but with a ground clearance of only 6 inches or so on a street bike, those lower 5 inches might make a difference...Plus they are about $3000 cheaper than a Prerunner

I found a sweet 2010 Speedway Blue SR5 regular access cab 2wd, which is RARE for us here in Tennessee....The dealer had to order it back in 2010 when he bought it cause they didn't ship that model/color around here....If the guy still has it when I get my income tax....it'll be mine
