Is there supposed to be a bushing inside the circular hinges here? I don't see one in the exploded view of the tailgate components but there is a lot of play in these hinges and no bushing on either side. There is so much play the tailgate rubs on the bed. You can see the wear in this photo. Parts department at the local dealer had no idea.

There are supposed to be plastic bushings...

My tailgate "hinges" were really worn out. Metal on metal with a lot of play.

I found a new set of hinges with a plastic cup bushing on the inside. Night and day difference it how the tailgate now operates. Play reduced significantly.

About $50 from Ebay for the pair.

    Thanks!

That is what I was expecting. Odd that they don't show up on Toyota's exploded view of the tailgate components. Maybe because they are attached to and a part of the hinge.

I think the bushings are riveted on... so probably not available solo.

Even with the plastic bushings still in mine, my gate flunks and bangs bad on bumpy roads. I just pulled the gate off and put a few wraps of electrical tape on the mounts and temporarily quiet it up, cheaply.
