I kind of like it. It looks like a mini slider for the rear.

Nice! I like this one. I wonder how wide is the step plate?

A couple of months ago I saw a guy with a Ford F150 that had a step and hand hold built into the tailgate. When the tailgate was down, the step was pulled straight back until out, then dropped down to use as a step. A metal bar was lifted up from the top of the tailgate as a hand hold. With the step and the hand hold it was very easy to get up into the bed. He said it was an option that the dealer offered and he jumped on it. That is the best I have seen. When the tailgate is closed, the step slides down inside the tailgate. Clean

That is actually a factory option. At least it is on the Superdutys and I believe it is an option on the new F150s.

    This is what I use ... http://amzn.com/B00132CH0A

It extends well beyond an open tailgate when fully extended. To keep the steel plate from flipping up and banging my bumper when offroad, I just run a velcro strap through a couple of the holes and around the arm. If I need full extension to get around the open tailgate I just pull the strap off. Works great and heavy as hell. Plus look at that price. Well worth $20.
