Having trouble with the tailgate on my 97. The cables that attach to the bed on each side both stick out when I close the tailgate. I've tried reattaching them different ways by flipping them around, etc but they still stick out. Anyone else have this issue and how did you fix it? Thanks.

Is this something new, or has it been like that? Mine do that, too, since the day I bought it. Pretty common.

Never heard of a "fix" for it. Although it's never really bothered me, so I never cared to look.

Never had this issue, but try tightening them as much as possible from an open position?

Jus recently started noticing it. Tailgate is hard to get fully closed because of it. When you say tighten them are you talking about on the screws on inside of the bed?

Try loosening the cable screws attached to the bed, pulling the cable tight as it will go, then tightening the screw. May keep it from moving around so much, making it stay "inside" when the tailgate shuts. Never tried it myself, just a thought..

I had the same issue. Bend the mounts that the cord is attached to. They get bent out of shape after a while

On my truck it never made it difficult to close, all I would do is push them back into the crack after using the tailgate.
