    Thank you for the video. The handle on my tailgate is dorked. It still works but I wonder for how long. I do have one question: When it broke, how did you get the tailgate open? (Curious minds want to know :boink:)

    Unscrew sheet metal flap on the bed side of the tailgate. Pull on two control wires towards the center of the tailgate (towards handle). This undoes the two latches on the side.

    28 years of livin' Gen1 TacoLife...
    mine just broke this past week after 1414 weeks of service
    something snapped behind there in 106 degree Heat :(

    is yours still functioning?
    mine had been off-kilter for a number of years

    If the handle broke likely the various linkages need lubed including the tailgate latches at the strikers. Tailgate was needing slammed so opened up the tailgate cover and cleaned the handle mechanism, connection points for the latch actuators, and latches themselves. Easy click closed and open now. Used dry type silicone spray lubricant on the strikers to not attract dust.
