To keep a long story short, how strong is the Tacoma's tailgate latching mechsnism? I am going to be traveling with my Moto in the bed with the tailgate up, the Moto tires pressing against the tailgate. I had to deflate the tires but it fit after a good shove. Should I be at all concerned the tailgate will pop open going down the road?

I have to admit that I'm not sure what a Moto is.

If you're talking about a bike and it's properly tied down to the bed points then you should be fine. I'd think that the tailgate would have to flex a lot to compromise the latch. If it's something heavier that might shift then I'm not sure.
