Does anyone know if it is ok to use the tailgate latches as tie downs? I’m going to be hauling a sofa, and they would be an ideal point to have a strap preventing it from a sliding back. Thanks!

I've used mine before. Those points should be sturdy enough for a sofa. And if it's just to prevent it sliding then you don't need to make it super tight.

Why not use the bed rails and the included move-able tie down points?

I have used them multiple times with my ratcheting straps. They are as sturdy as the other mounting points on the truck.
