Had a first gen Tundra and I didn't even want to try it on that. This is a 2016 Tundra, tailgate flexes, but has yet to bend. We switched to toyota after a bad experience with the new generation Silverado. So far love the trucks just the tailgates seem weak on both of them. Will be ordering your tailgate skin and cap for the Tacoma though!

I never thought about a tail gate having a weight rating. I can tell you mine supports myself and two other buddies when we sit down to have an occasional beer (590 ish pounds, give or take.)

The side mounts were NOT the problem

If you load a motorcycle frequently; just take 10 minuets of your time, to save you $$$. Take the screws out that hold the plastic, inner side of the tailgate. Remove the plastic cover. Now look at the tailgate supports where the inner plastic cover sits on

The plastic cover is stronger that the metal, web supports!!! Well, I should say the web supports that are in there. Not much there

Those of you that that load motorcycles frequently, without reinforcing that area; you are on borrowed time

Note: Loading ATV's, does not hurt the tailgate. the ATV wheels are near the outer ends of the tailgate. A motorcycle though, runs over the weakest part of the tailgate.

Also: If you have a bent tailgate; we have a new, fully assembled, new take-off off of a silver truck, no camera. Check my pics on this forum for pics. Will not ship, no-one will guarantee the painted finish, in shipping

I think carrying planks to support really heavy items over the tailgate will help redistribute that weight and may save it from bending.

I call shenanigans. The payload of the entire truck isn't too much more than 800.

I'm 370lbs and dad is roughly 300. We sat on tailgate together with zero issues. Regularly.

I just loaded and drove around all day and then unloaded a 2018 Polaris Sportsman XP 1000R High Lifter Edition with zero issues. No bending, flexing, sagging... nothing wrong at all. I have a Base 2014 DCSB
