Could get you shot out here as well, only you'd be the one to get thrown in jail for it and the would-be thief or his family would get a huge settlement

Why do they always cut the wire? wouldn't it be worth more to have it in tact?
Saw a 3rd gen a couple months ago missing the tailgate and a foot of wires hanging down

Yep, cheaper and easier to just be a victim.

Easier and quicker to cut the harness, than fishing under the truck to undo a connector.

My buddy got his car ran into by a tweaker that was high and fleeing from the cops. If his car wasn't parked where it was, the guy might have ran over his daughter that was playing in the front yard. Guy gets out and runs jumping neighbors fences, my buddy chases him down and tackles him and holds him till the cops get there. Cops don't even arrest the tweaker. No license no insurance and it wasn't his, car, they didn't even check to see who's car it was. They gave the guy a ticket and let him go. Then the cops told my buddy that he needs to be careful because he can be sued for assault and battery.

When I got my truck I read about tailgate thefts the first night and went out the next day and installed the hose clamp solution, just in case I forget to lock the tailgate one time. I had never known tailgate thefts were a thing. Then about a week later I read that some a-hole not far away got busted with dozens and dozens of stolen tailgates.

Early 2nd Gens had no lock. I always worried would get stolen. It finally did, but they took the rest of the truck too.

I'll have to make sure to delete that. Also add sound proofing.

That could be the cause of some of the howling sounds that people have been talking about.

i like mine because it adds a little extra security to my bed extender. i dont believe it can be removed unless the tailgate is down...

How much did they charge you for the tail gate lock option?

Dealerships will fucking defraud you any way they can to make a buck

I installed the electronic Pop-n-Lock on my 2nd that tapped into the electronic lock wiring for the doors, so when I push the button on the key fob 2x it unlocks all the doors as well as the tailgate. Tailgate theft is a big issue out in SoCal right now

I never understood why people would steal a tailgate. If every truck comes with one tailgate, how could there be a market for tailgates unless everyone is just trading tailgates?
