Mine broke the return spring on the action. I had it wired to a aftermarket alarm which had a third button for just such application's.

To be fair to Pop-a-lock. I'm not 100% sure that was the brand but I think it was. Ebay deal.

You don't have to follow your Warranty policy. You can do whatever you want. Toyota has paid for more than a few things that were out of warranty on my truck, sometimes way beyond the warranty period. What it comes down to, is it something that should have lasted, regardless of the arbitrary warranty period. A handle on a tailgate lock should last forever. It's not something that has a huge amount of pressure put on it. It doesn't wear out. It would be like the door hinges on your truck break and your door falls off. Regardless of the warranty period, you would probably expect the manufacturer to fix it free of charge. It's a hinge, it should last forever. Same thing with this lock.

And it might gain P&L some good PR, which it seems the company needs, based on the reviews on here. But if a company only cares about the short term $$, they will look the other way.

Thank you for your perspective. We care greatly about the life of the product and even more so, our customers who are using it which is why we have made the improvements. In the case of a tab breaking we will replace the product fully with proof of purchase regardless of in warranty or not. Other option is a discounted price when it's out of warranty and there is no proof of purchase. We continuously try to improve our products and listen to our customers on what they need to keep their trucks more secure.

Just to be clear, would you warranty the following lift tab that broke on this member's P&L that resulted in him trying a reinforcement?:

Yep, since he is out of warranty we could offer him a discount code if he doesn't have proof of purchase OR replace it entirely if he does have proof of purchase.

I just picked up a pop-n-lock for my 2017 Taco last week. It was Amazon open box, but the product seems fine. I've yet to install it.

Can I be sure that this includes the updated tab? Is there a way to tell?

I would check with Amazon to see what their return policy is on "Open Box" items. I would say you are pretty safe because Amazon's stock will most likely be updated products. If you do have any issues please feel free to contact us.
