I'm having trouble locking my tailgate. It acts like the key doesn't want to go in. Am I doing something wrong? I have the tonneau cover by Toyota, it's a 16.

If you are using the tailgate key and not the key inside the fob, it should work.

The only keys I have are in the key fob, 2ea.. Are you saying the tailgate has its own key? The Dealer only gave us 2. Thanks, Tom

Not sure if you found your key or not, did not look at the whole thread below, but my key was in my owners manual side pocket.

It's a stupid design that I think they missed during development. It's the first year for tailgate lock and smart key. I think when they designed the tailgate lock they forgot to account for the lazer cut smart key so they threw a regular cut key instead of holding up production.

Interesting thread. I picked up my new 2016 today and it had two keys, which work the tailgate lock. (Not the push button start smart fob)

    Better tires
Any chance the new tailgate lock will fit any earlier models?
