Maybe I'm not as rough on my handle as other people...? I dunno. I've never had a problem with it getting sticky or cracking or breaking.

    Thanks Muddy n Christian.
I used to have a 6' bed too and just layed my bike on its side too; there was plenty of room. With a 5' bed it has to be in from corner to corner and the handle bars end up sticking up too high for a tonneau cover. I tried every which way and that ended up being about the best way. Have to get a cap I guess.
    Thanks.

My 5500 just malfunctioned after 4 years of use. I bought the conversion kit to get a codeable lock and it did not solve the problem, of not being able to lock the handle.

PL5400 TOYOTA TACOMA CODEABLE CONVERSION KIT
    PL5400CONV

So I dug deeper, and disassembled the locking mechanism. It turns out that there is a 50-cent spring under the locking mechanism "plate" that had gotten out of position. This made it impossible to lock the handle. Reseating the spring and reassembling the locking mechanism fixed it. A 15-minute fix.

I like the codeable lock cylinder so I don't mind keeping that kit in place. One less key to carry around.

What type of front skewer does your bike have? I've got an extra locking setup for a non boost skewer with tnuts that fit the factory rails.

Pop n lock 5400 installed 7.5 yrs ago. No issue to this day, minus fading of color. From day one I’ve been gentle with it after reading horror stories. Def don’t regret the purchase.

Lots of dollars and no sense...
Why does this thing seem to make up it's own mind when to lock or stay unlocked. I know I can use the key to lock/unlock. But it's always hit or miss when it will just lock itself or stay unlocked. Any help?

Check the spring under the locking mechanism "plate." Mine got out of position and I reseated it. Problem solved.
