I installed a pop-in-lock years ago before the OEM was available and it has worked well. Except that eventually I had to replace the lock because the pop-in-lock eventually broke off the connection point. I don’t know if the OEM version has solved this problem or not.

Anyone got a link to some install instructions for the OEM lock? Just follow the Pock & Lock instructions? It's super obvious and connection in the passenger kick panel so no instructions needed?

Got mine today, OEM kit looks fantastic, excited for this.

Got the body harness installed tonight. Lo and behold, it looks to me like someone designed this with excellent attention to detail but the finished product came out with the tailgate quick release connector reversed. The instructions say to zip tie the tailgate connector which just seems wrong because the camera connector is not secured, thus allowing quick and easy tailgate removal. I’m guessing the zip tie approach is at least easier to remove and replace than if you were to mount the tailgate connector on the spot perfectly made for it next to the camera connector. Nuts!

I’m almost tempted to cut and re-splice the connectors on the correct ends. That way would allow proper rapid tailgate removal while ensuring the body plugs are secured to the vehicle.

I’m case it’s not clear, the white plugs are for the camera, harness tape removed. The black plugs are for the OEM lock. The black left side and white right side go to the tailgate while the black right side and white left side go to the interior along the frame.

EDIT: I think I've decided to do 2 mods to this to make it better:

    1. Reverse the connectors for the body to tailgate connection, thus allowing the body harness connector to sit properly on the white plastic mounting tab next to the camera connector.

    2. Untape the factory backup camera loom and insert the tailgate lock wire for the portion of the loom before it exits the tailgate to after it enters the frame. Thus I'll only have one loom for that run instead of 2 zip-tied together. Since I'm cutting off the connector already for 1, this should be a pretty easy process. I'll have a small Y at the body side and probably just go harness tape inside the tailgate since that's already protected. If this works, I won't need the new double-grommets and I might even be able to do it all without touching any of that, if the wires are stiff enough to fish through the loom on their own.

I assume shortbed since same wheelbase and same front seat. The part in the middle is all along the frame rail.

Check out my video on how I installed a PopNLock on my 2019. By the way, the OEM IS a PopNLock. Here is the link:

It used to just be a rebadged Pop-n-lock until a year or two ago and then they actually came out with their own solution/kit.

I used this same video, only place a got hung up is for some reason I thought He was accessing it from the rear passenger seat. Once I looked under the truck I realized that it was the front passenger seat.

Yes, if you look at the thumbnail I used, it actually shows the official Toyota part number on the popnlock box! Out of curiosity, I wonder if they still use the same part number if it is their own lock system?
