Tailgate question

Hey tw, got a strange question about my tailgate. I replaced my latch with a locking pop n lock latch handle quite a few years ago. The handle was starting to get a little rough so I removed the inner skin of the gate to lube it up. When I opened it up I found these plastic clips or bumpers or something down in the bottom. There is 8 of them but I can't figure out what they do or where they go. Anyone know where the f these go?

 

Has the plastic tailgate cap been replaced or is it loose? Looks like the plastic tabs that snap into the top of the tailgate.

 

Verified that these appear to be the plastic retainer tabs molded into the tailgate cap. I went KB Voodoo a couple years ago but saved my old stuff. I found the cap and checked it out. Only 2 left
On either end so I guess I’ve got six rattling around inside my tailgate too!

 

Thank you! I was going crazy trying to figure out what the hell those were for. Yes my tailgate cap has been loose for a long time and when I would close my gate I would hear them rattling around inside for years. Guess I should have investigated it years ago. When I opened it up to lube the latch I didn't fully remove the cap which would explain why I didn't see any clean spots or anything to tell me where they originally went. Much appreciated.
