Well, I'm after a new tailgate since I destroyed mine backing in a trailer this week. I cut the wheel to sharp with the tailgate still down and the bar/handle used to raise the trailer when you park it got the best of my tailgate (pics attached). I think I'm going to start my search in some local junkyards. Or maybe I'll just take it to a body shop. I got a couple questions if anyone would like to chime in.

Are there any differences in the tailgate on a regular cab or access cab vs. a double cab?

What about the backup camera? If I find a tailgate without one, could I take my handle with the camera in it and swap them out?

If I cant find one in black, or end up buying one new (unpainted...found one here- http://shoptrd.com/partlocator/inde...=2010&graphicID=8512725&callout=1&catalogid=2), does anyone know about how much a body shop would charge to paint it to match the rest of my truck?

Or should I just go through a body shop and just let them fix it and be done? How much would they charge?

    What would yall do?

    I have a black 2010 double cab.

    Thanks guys.

Take your time. Someone on craigslist will sell you a stolen one on the cheap. However, if you kept that one as is, I can bet that would be the best anti-theft mod to date.

Wait a second. You have a backup camera. Didn't you notice something was amiss when you started to back up?

hey man - I'm not offering anything for sale but....just as an idea for you.....
I'm currently replacing my tailgate with something custom from my brothers girlfriend.....what she's doing is grafting one of the old TOYOTA tailgates into an '04 one....You know the old ones where there was a rectangular recessed section with the raised TOYOTA letters? (sorry: bad description...)
Anyways....I just love the old Toyotas so I loved her idea....maybe something you wanna try??? it would be cool to see on of the newer Toyotas with an old style tailgate like that....

Unfortunately, no. I only use the side mirrors when I back in a trailer.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

I would have a body shop take care of it and be done with it. Bummer about the tailgate:(
