Sorry to hijack, somewhat relevant to the original topic. Does anyone have the part number(or specs) for the little plastic threaded inserts for the tailgate cap hardware(the T30 torx screws that hold the cap on the tailgate)?

    Thank you.

Every one I clicked on was on backorder. Looks like it's not going to be that soon.

Relentless or Mobtown (can't recall) has a full hardware upgrade kit available. It's not a bad idea to use that, even if you're not adding the plate.

My Mobtown smooth plate and cap has held up great. I used the threadsert inserts and I'd highly recommend using them.

I went with the Mobtown kit with the cap and upgraded hardware. The hardware was a pita to install and not worth it IMO. I like the look of the ribbed reinforcement and it definitely feels better but the screws need to be another half inch longer in order to fit the OE cover over top of this reinforcement. I loaded my bike once with an aluminum ramp and was a little disappointed the minor rubbing already wore off the finish on the cap. I'm glad I don't have to worry about a flimsy tailgate anymore but would be a lot happier if the screws in the hardware kit were longer and the finish on the cap was durable.

When my buddy (who has a Tacoma and way more money than us) told me about this mod, my girlfriend freaked out proper. I just barely have her talked in to Bilsteins and a minor lift and now $200 just to make it so our truck doesn't self destruct?!

I have a dirt bike 300 lbs wet, and could see the tailgate beginning to bend while loading it. I got the Mobtown reinforcement, which works great.

The Mobtown has one instance of bending with a 900 lb bike. Not sure what a 650 lb bike would do:

Relentless is harder to install, and has been known to scratch the tailgate because of the tight fit. Mobtown installs easy and cleanly.

Thanks, I saw those but I'm not really interested and the oem stuff will work fine with me.

Does anybody that installed the hardware or kit have 5 or 6 of those funky torx screws they would be interested in parting with? I'd gladly pay shipping and throw some random automotive related steekers.
    Thanks

Relentless may be more difficult, I've never installed any other type, but it certainly isn't hard. As for scratching the gate, if you are careful and use adhesive stripping like they recommend, the odds of causing any damage are minimal.

i run the mob town plate, fits perfect right under the plastic without any need for new hardware. Adds a lot of heft to the tailgate.

We aren't "really" convinced that they accomplish much, and a steel skin makes a Tacoma tailgate pretty damn heavy, so we're not interested in making them.

I've been looking at the cap and skin from mobbtown.

They have ran free shipping sales in the past on individual components, waiting to see if and when the next one rolls around.

Thanks for the reviews on the hardware upgrade

In regards to shipping time frames, we typically always have these parts in stock. The reinforcement plates both smooth and rib in steel for 2nd and 3rd gen Tacoma as well as the one piece aluminum part for the 3rd gen are in stock and ship next day. We are currently on back order on the caps for the 2nd gen. We have been awaiting a batch to return from powder coat. The plates come standard in powder coat since they are steel as well as the cap. The aluminum one piece for the 3rd gen is optional powder since it is aluminum and will add a lead time of a couple weeks. We stock those in raw aluminum.
