Tailgate removal is easy -- I know that much --buuut! What about the wire to the camera?
Those that have taken the tail off, do you disconnect the wire under the truck. I did a quick look-see and the wire looked like it was secured well? I would like to go back to the factory standard when reattaching if that is possible. I need to take it off to attach some stick-on lettering after the metal warms up.
    Thanks for any help

Easier to take off the tailgate cap and skin, and unplug the camera under there.

Their should be a quick disconnect under the truck. I also had a cap/water cover in my glovebox for when it’s disconnected.

    stock (for now)
In my glove compartment there was a clip in a bag that had instructions to removing the tailgate and attaching the back up camera on the bumper.

Should be an easy disconnect, and you have a cap/plug to close it off in your glove box.

See pages 117-118 in the owner's manual. Unclip under the tailgate and use the caps that are in your glove box to cover the open connectors on the truck and on the tailgate.

    ^^^^^^
This, and FYI the wiring plug and clip under the passenger side is very easy to remove. IF the process takes you more than 5 minutes you WAY over thought it.

I actually did that already (looked in there) --but the wires are tied down very well. I thought it may? be easier and less destructive to disconnect from the other end? Did you remove yours? I will check the manual and look in the glove compartment --Thanks

I have removed my tailgate 3 times I believe.

Once for the tailgate bar install, once for loading a mower, and I think once before the other two times to be sure I knew where and how to handle the wires.

    Work in progress...
I found a video on Youtube for a 2007-2009. I am thinking it might be the same since the plastic wire caps in my glove box look the same.

It comes off really fast, too fast! In fact, keep that thing locked, my dealer said it’s the most expensive body replacement part they have been ordering for customers due to theft.

Thanks all -- I actually have been reading thru the manual in spare moments --problem I had not got that far in the book yet. I looked at it tonight and sure enough I think I will do that project tomorrow, unless we get bad weather tonight. Now at least I know what the inside of the tailgate looks like!

Thanks again -- Took the tailgate off --took it in the garage warmed it up next to my woodstove and installed my carbon fiber tailgate letters. It went well!
