Part has been redesigned to increase strength and will still fit under plastic skin if you want to. Pics soon to come once stock arrives.

Installed this last weekend. Looks really clean and adds a little heft to the tailgate, which is nice. Haven't tested the strength vs folded paper yet, but I feel comfortable recommending it nonetheless :)

    Just bought it!
Looks great! Not sure why everyone is so concerned with the bends. If they want the bends they can go spend $185 of the powdercoated Relentless version and pay $60 to ship it. This one is just another option for a different price. If the guy came on trying to sell a tailgate cover that folded over the top edge everyone would jump on him for copying the Relentless design. I think this one looks great for the lower price and the steel will definitely definitely help distribute the weight over the tailgate better. I always had fear of putting too much weight onto one spot of the plastic cover and breaking/cracking it, not just bending the whole tailgate itself. The one thing I would've loved to see(from anybody) is a cover that folds over to top edge, and curves slightly under the bottom edge. It's nice to reinforce the top edge, but I feel like there's just as good of a chance for the bottom edge to bend too.

I'm working on an improved design now, one that is much stronger but will still fit under the plastic pieces if you want to do so. I hope to have something soon. I too never put anything in the bed because I climbed up onto my tailgate and broke all the spot welds and bent the metal inside, just me. Granted I weigh 260lbs but still, that was pathetic. Now I have one of these on my truck and carry all sorts of weight on the tailgate with no issues what so ever. Had every bit of 600lbs on it Friday and drove 80 miles, perfect.

Holy crap that is an epic idea. I need to figure out how to make this happen with my powdercoat guy.

Cool product! Just ordered one! The fact that it retains the stock tailgate cap is perfect because I have a camper top and I need the window to close correctly. I'm 240 and haven't popped any spot welds yet but it will sure be nice to add a little support, I hear the thing creak and strain when I climb up on it. I'm also looking forward to the flat surface!! So much more useful IMO.

I saw the order come through and it'll ship tomorrow. Should be a 2-3 day delivery time, weather permitting. I hope you like it as much as I do, I put one on my truck as well!

:bananadance:Definitely. It'll look like a perfect match with KB's cap or my cap. Only thing I can say is powder coat color may be ever so slightly different.

Yeah I'm sure that made me sound confused.

Not sure why people are telling him that he should have made his plate exactly like Relentless, when Relentless already made what they want and this guy is making one differently and at a lower price.

I thought it would be nice if someone made a tailgate reinforcement plate where the bottom edge of the tailgate also had a bend in it, so the top and bottom of the tailgate could be reinforced. I was just saying it would be nice if such a product existed, I'm not trying to tell his guy to copy someone else's design that already exists but people apparently don't want to pay for.

I'm pretty certain Relentless does have the bend on the bottom. I remember seeing it in a pic once. Their design is set the strongest option. But at a cost, a justifiable cost. I know what it takes to make this stuff and what it cost to powder coat. But you're right, mine is not as strong but def stronger than the plastic. It'll easily support 300+ lbs and also gives you more protection for when stuff is sliding around in the bed. I had metal in the bed sliding around, my skin to the abuse without a dent and my bed didn't. Plastic cracked on a fender.

When will the improved design tailgate skin be available?

I think I see what you mean. The bottom of the actual tailgate skin and not the lip over the tailgate cap.

I should have my prototype tomorrow. Then I will know if it'll work on not. If so, I will have parts for sale within a week. I will create a new thread for the improved part once I have it ready to ship.
