Looks like a good idea if it can stay dry.

This would be sick if it avoids the lock / Pop N lock stuff I've got in there

I have recovery gear that is light and packable in bags, also highway flares, and other light stuff that would be good in there. I wouldnt put heavy stuff like a Hi-Lift or fuel rotopacks in there though...

I’ve always liked that storage option, but I’m certain it’s not possible with the 3rd Gen. This is the open tailgate.

I put rope and tow straps in bags and then into the side storage compartments as they are not particularly water tight.

Works great for LCs because it's enclosed. 2nd/3rd gens have deep tailgates compared to mine. Personally, I think having a waterproof liner attached to a frame and lid you just drop in and secure would work. You wouldn't have to worry about waterproofing the tailgate.

Essentially this, but hinged, in the shape of a tailgate and lockable.

That's really what I had in mind. 1st gen DCs have zero storage, which is what prompted me to try this.

I’ve got the Mobtown Aluminum tailgate cover, don’t want to mod this mod

It would be cool but it adds a lot of weight and then the tailgate assist doesn’t work.

That’s the issue with the heavy all steel covers and the lighter aluminum works better.

Looks Like it can be made into multiple mini cubbies!

If you cut the supports and Fab a bin with a lid you're done! But beware the extra weight will play games with the hydro assist down for the gate.
