I am very close to ordering the Mobtown reinforcement steel skin, but before I do I'm curious if anyone has damaged their 16 tailgate. I know this was an issue on the 2nd gens., but I have not read one post about this being an issue on the new trucks. I have seen the pics of the 16 tailgate and it does look a little flimsy.

It's actually good to see no replies to this thread, this pretty much answers my question. I may still order the reinforcement skin, but it's good to hear no one has had a tailgate failure, yet.

I weight 205 and my friend who weights 300+ has stood on to load and we've sat on it at the same time so far so good.

I think the overall structure is pretty solid and wouldn't worry about any kind of normal distributed load. However, you will likely crack or puncture the OEM skin with anything from moving an appliance to tossing heavy firewood on it. I crunched mine (barely visible, but there) getting a 200 lb drill press out. The weight shifted to a corner of the base. I would recommend the skin for those reasons or a cap if you are sliding or dropping heavy stuff over it. Personally, I will keep mine until it gets wrecked and then put a skin on.
