I guess my real question is if you're going through all the trouble of adding legs and things, why not just use a folding table? That way you can use it away from the truck too.

@0xDEADBEEF , I would want this to work double duty as storage as well, storing all of my kitchen items inside.

Well, you could set the apache case on the table. I'm not being sarcastic, for once. I'm just one of those people that tries to avoid single-purpose setups.

@excorcist, do you have pictures of your setup with the tailgate closed? How is that mounted? Hitch, bumper?

Speaking from experience, having your kitchen items stored under your work surface gets extremely frustrating.

@USMC - Retired , indeed, the utensils would be inside a smaller bin inside the case, the stove is stored inside the case, and anything else would also be inside a smaller bin, when I get to camp, I would empty the case entirely, then, use the case as the work surface. The accompanying bins would be then stacked in the bed for ease of access. Therefore not needing to access the inside of the case at any point until I pack up the kitchen items.

I'm not at home at the moment, but I made a lightweight swing out around factory bumper, original idea was to use one of those swingouts that mount in hitch (Wilco or even a swingout carrier for mountain bikes) but I wanted something more permanent. Here is a quick picture I just snapped in Walmart parking lot. I have a bunch on my comp at home that depict the process better I can post later if youd like.

@excorcist i love the Wilco, just can’t justify the price right now, maybe after a lift and a full size spare, maybe.

not sure of your budget, but what about a hitch mounted swing out bike carrier and mimic what excorcist has done?

@Horger12 great idea! Wouldn’t it still be able to swivel though? When “attached” I would want to limit the amount of movement as much as possible.

So that isn't a whole custom bumper?

You could also actually use 3 sets of some z-clips and build a frame with them. Put part A on your tailgate, then put part B on the bottom of your case. You should be able to then simply slide it into place. Since it will be supported on 3 side, it shouldn't rotate on you and it will still cantilever. You would probably want to use some pop rivets to secure everything to your tailgate and the case. Just remember though that the part A frame would essentially be a permanent fixture on it.

I don't know if that makes sense or not?

I think this is the best easy & cheap solution. The one drawback is the pieces will need to be attached to the case and tailgate. It should have a low enough profile that it might not be that much of a hinderance.

Watch that oil. I had mine on its side like that and it didnt matter how tight I made the cap, it always leaked everywhere, especially when I’d have a fair bit of altitude change.

You don’t need nearly that much oil unless you’re deep frying a turkey, lol.

I just used a couple of ~6oz screw top bottles.
