have a sub 1/4" hex head and a screwdriver slot. A thief won't have the nut driver and won't have the time to use a screwdriver to do 30 turns to free the end of the clamp. Get 'em from a mid 80's 3 or 5 series BMW car in a salvage yard or PM me and I'll send a couple for the postage. Nice stainless steel with ridges instead of slots.

I never trimmed the clamp, and it is quite long and takes some time to undo. Obviously it can be manipulated but I think it works as a deterrent (so far)...

You want the one marked 42-48. Flattened out it's 7.5" long, about 3" of tail to wind in. I don't have any more in that size after shipping two today, will gather more of 'em if any body needs them.

Oh, $5 shipped anywhere in the U.S. They have about 1.5" of tail, not 3. I won't have any until March.

After spending $26,000 for my 2010 Tacoma and $800 a year on Auto insurance I thought it over........ So I bought a $20 tail gate lock from Amazon.... So what was the big deal... Spend the 20 bucks ---- not even a 1/2 tank of gas if you look at it !! Save the hose clamps for your plumbing issues!!!

Agree - I've had to take my tailgate off a couple of times and the tailgate lock made it a lot easier than a hose clamp would've been.

Thanks to Everbody I took off the rusty hose clamp and put his on. It took a little liquid wrench and a socket that fit over the triangular stubby part (couldn't get the stupid plastic thingy to work).

Wow that is such a great idea. Unfortunately, it's too late for me. I bought a 2011 Tacoma last November and on new years eve, my tailgate disapeared. I didn't even know that people would steal it. Also I didn't know the Tacoma's tailgate comes off that easy. I took it to the dealer I got it from and they did had terrible service. Took over a month to get it done. Just got it this Monday. The only emblem it had in the back was Tacoma and V6. They forgot the Toyota and Prerunner. Those bastards. I ordered the pop n lock. It's not here yet. For the time being, I took the tailgate off and it's in my apartment. When I install it, I'll also install the hose clamp. Great info.

Just installed the hose clamps. Talked to the guy at the counter and told him what I was getting them for and he said he was gonna get a set for his Taco after his shift. Not a bad theft deterentfor $3. I am also looking into the lock as well but with a snap on bed cover, what is that going to accomplish for me?

All you really need is the hose clamp. I dont know of anyone loosing a tail gate that had the hose clamp on.
