Does anyone have the problem(s) of the tightening the t-40 bolt with the cables and washers and the having the cable seize and not move?.

I've tried adding WD-40 to the mix and it doesn't seem to help.

I've also seen a pic with 2 washers - one small and one big. I have the HD stainless steel washers on now (big ones).

Any suggestions? Thanking you in advance.

I installed the cable retainer and the clamp mod ... here is a picture of the version of the retainer I put in. Post for the clamp later ... thanks for the ideas.

Brief write-up of my version on my "build".

Well, there are a few options. Basically, when you add a washer, you have to compensate for the thickness. Otherwise, when you tighten the setup down, the large washer will bottom out on the cable retaining clip and keep it from rotating.

The solution is just to add a smaller spacer that compensates for the larger washer.

    Hey all,

Just a quick shout out thanking TW for being so awesome! I just completed the hose clamp addition to the starboard side of my tailgate. Pretty much the same as everyone else that completed this...

Somehow I missed the talk about adding washers to the cable retainer, that's next though!

    Cheers!

First, when you put the bolt on put a little Locktight (red) on the threads & don't snug it down all the way so the cable moves freely.
& don't ever use WD 40 for anything as a lubricant.
It is a dry powder which after the salvent evaporates leaves the area worst/stuck than when you began.

Does anyone know where in Canada I can buy these. I went to Lowes and Home Depot and they didn't think there was a such thing. Any help would be great.

Only use red Loctite if you NEVER want it to come off without taking a torch to it. Blue Loctite will do the job just fine and you can remove it.

I already did the hose clamp. Now I got to get the washers for the cable. So many great ideas here :)

You know...this option might actually work. Color match might be tricky though.:D

    Hi.

It appears that the mpg for a Tacoma varies pretty wildly. I am assuming that most vehicles are automatic transmission.

May I ask what octane level gas most people are using?

    Hey Doug,

I am getting about 19.5 on 87 Octane. Everything on my truck is still stock. *NB This is mixed driving in the worse place to drive in the entire country....Hawaii-Honolulu!

    Obviously a joke.
You are asking for someone to just break your window and steal your AR (or airsoft, not sure what you have there).

I read this thread and here is what I gathered for options

    1. Hose clamp. Easy to install, prevent a thief with no tools from taking.
    2. Gatekeeper. Easy to install, takes a few more tools to remove, but prevent quick thieves.
Not sure where is best online, but googled this real fast
    http://www.trucknvans.com/Gate-Keeper-Tailgate-Protection-p/200810.htm
    3. Masterlock. Requires a key. Says "Note: Does not fit Toyota Tacoma" but yet you guys show pics. Does it fit? Does it work well?
    http://www.masterlock.com/products/...&modelNumber=MLCOM_PRODUCT_8253DAT&showquiz=0

I am okay with implementing ALL of these if that is the approach. I dont think #2 can work with #3 installed, and likewise, but perhaps #1 and #3 or #1 and #2?

    Help?

Nice! My Tacoma is too big to fit in my garage now, LOL. I am definitely investing a couple $ and doing this.

    Nice right up.

Four year old thread, but mod still works great on the 2013 model. I found the clamps at ACE Hardware under the brand name "Tridon," though the clamps themselves had "IDEAL" inscribed on them. Two #20 clamps for $4.49. Remove the key once before installing, then you won't need pliers when you remove it the second time. The bolt is nothing but a square peg, so I feel anyone with pliers could defeat it, but hey, it's better than nothing.
