    This lock doesn't work.

I bought it last night, installed it as tight as it could go and with the extra play I could easily slide it to the side and off came the master lock.
Better check yours bro.. This is made for full size pickups, not mid sized.

Does this clamp solution work for a 2003? I looked at my tailgate yesterday, and two bolts attach it to the bed. I don't see how the clamp will help from having it stolen. I may be overlooking something here. I'm guessing this is for generation 2 Tacomas, and doesn't apply to my truck

    Thanks

I'm not sure. Our tailgates don't bolt on. They can literally be pulled off. So this mod prevents or at least reduces that from happening as easily.

First post. First mod. Big time thanks to all contributors for a quick, simple, and super cost effective piece of mind.

I put heat shrink tubing on the Koehler/EZ hose clamp (EZ20 BK). My first mod. Next will be the washer mod.

Did mine today. I removed the tailgate so I could wrap the pivot point in white electrical tape (I happened to have some). I also bought a stainless steel clamp (3/4" to 1 1/2"). So maybe it won't rust too quickly. I oriented the clamp to face the tailgate...hopefully making it a bit more difficult to loosen. I used a very small wrench to tighten it.

I bought a pop &lock tailgate lock with a spot for my backup camera. That way i can both have it function for this as well as lock it if i put a cover on it sometime :)

Thanks a bunch for this GREAT idea! I plan to get on it ASAP...so cheap and easy it seems unreal :) I just put the tailgate strut on the left side of mine, a couple of days ago...awesome addition. The existing cable must be pushed to the left side of the cylinder...wants to cause a bind if allowed to go right.

Great thread, checked mine out on my 2014 TRD Sport. It seems that on mine Toyota has fixed the problem, because it has what looks to be the equivalent to the Gate Keeper on both sides unless I am missing something.

However, I will need to put the 1/2 inch washers on the cables to keep someone from dropping it on the bumper.

I want to order a Pop and Lock, but just read on here where two guys had theirs freeze/lock up in just a couple of weeks. So I will wait and see how that shakes out.

I'm having trouble removing the bolt where the cable hangs for the tailgate. Any suggestions? I might just be terribly weak. :/
