Great idea - never thought about someone stealing the tailgate itself, but I'm sure it happens all the time. I got 2 SAE #20 clamps at Lowe's in the plumbing section. $2 and 2 minutes is well worth it.

Those looking for the "key" type of hose clamp the OP used in the video, I found them at Autozone. I'd searched the the big box stores and had no luck. Stashed the key in the glove box so it's handy if I need it.

    Too few to list.
The key type does not have a slot for a flat or philips screwdriver.

Additionally, place your clamp backwards and install using a wrench or pliers and it makes it that much more difficult to remove.

Good Idea. I just bought a hose clamp for $1 dollar from home depot and then grind off the screwdriver head to make it harder for
thief's to remove. I normally don't go around removing my tailgate anyhow and if I need to remove i'll just cut it off at my convenience. I also put a larger diameter washer around the support cable and lock-tite on the bolt to make it difficult for somebody to unhook.

Might want to point the screw head where it is inaccessible when gate is closed. Where yours is will be pointed towards ground when tailgate is shut and if you get under truck you can unscrew it from there. I suggest flipping it in same spot where when tailgate is shut, the screw head is pointed up and inaccessible.

Not when you have a pop n lock tailgate lock. :) I have a pop n lock and a locking bed cover. When I installed the hose clamp years ago I did exactly what
    T@co_Pr3runn3r has suggested.

I also have popnlock, with stainless gatekeeper piece that fit over the clamp and the cable washer mod..........and now a hard tonneau cover.

If the tailgate can be opened then not much you can do to make clamp secure other than a tack weld I suppose or maybe a dab of epoxy or jbweld............

other than use something like this VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV

I have one of these and it is very easy to install. The only problem I have with it is that it is a bit loose. Besides that minor complaint, it gets the job done.

I used the hose clamp style because I don't think someone will want to take the necessary time to unscrew it. I also put a layer of electrical tape under the hose clamp to keep it from scratching the paint. I know, I know...it's a bit much but I don't like scratches. :)

This only needs to be done on the passenger side though. Unless your picture is reversed, the driver's side doesn't have an opening for the hose clamp to block.

Ha! Thanks Ron. Didn't read any further then install the clamp. I had a few floating around the shop so on they went. 2 is always better then one right!?
