Though not easy, I was able to remove the steel epoxy out of one screw in 10 minutes.

So to put it in perspective. I probably added 40 minutes of protection; two screws and the Tailgate locking device without epoxy for now.

Next is the canary in the coal mine. :) I have the perfect electronic gadget for this. A small ITC 2.4ghz radio and a battery and switch.

It's obvious (to everyone but me I'm sure) but to me it looks like if I'm a thief, I just open the tailgate and screw the clamp off. What keeps someone from doing that?[/QUOTE]

Nothing. But it'll take you a minute or two to get the clamp and tailgate off versus, instant off without the clamp.

I really think this type of thing is about making it harder for the sh*t bags.

Yes it is about making it harder and adding time (the enemy to a theif) to being abe to remove the tailgate.

Having a key is not good enough these days. It is about adding layers of protection. Thiefs are not smart after all, they steal these because it is easy and the can make a few bucks, while making our lives miserable.

They are people that lack fundamental respect for others property and usually take something because it is there for the picking.

I don't know what I am talking about but the thought sounded good:)

Anyway this is my non thought out opinion

Exactly. Then you add in a few more minutes to remove the "washer mod" from each side and hopefully the dirt bag just moves on. Locking tailgate and cover helps as well. :)

This will help slow them even more so you can wake up, get your gun and get outside before they can get tailgate.

Also you might notice the cable washer mod on this page that keeps the cables from being released.

Might not stop a fool with a bag of tools but someone just wandering around looking for shit to take off with won't be taking off with yours.

Got a email today from a fellow Tacoma owner's father stating his son's tailgate was stolen in Carson, CA this is about 5 miles from my house. They did not cut the wire they disconnected it while it was outside his friends house.

I am sure many of you have one of these, but just in case you don't we adjusted the price on our website https://sabellco.com/store to $34.95 to match the price on Amazon and ebay. "TC-Forums" at checkout.

I'm glad I just installed my pop and lock with no issues. Just in case!

K&N air filter system, muffler change to straight through type (Too loud for my taste, will soon go back to stock style muffler). A/T style BF Goodrich tires.
Thank you for the well written/produced instructions. I am a new owner of a Tacoma. Well, I am old at 65 years and the Tacoma is a 2010 with 152,000 on the clock so "new owner" just means the Tacoma and I have just met.
I did the mod as described. This fix is simple and should work well.
    Thanks you!

New Taco owner here. Stumbled onto this post and very grateful I did!!! Did this MOD within a couple days and feel so much better that I will not lose my tailgate that easily. I also ordered a PopNLock locking tailgate handle and should arrive shortly and will instill right away.

Thank you OP for the write up and passing on the knowledge!!
