Tailgate theft....How to prevent it....

Put hose clamps on either side of my '09 tailgate today. Thanks, Chris for the videos. Except you made it look harder than it was to do.

by putting it there your clamping nothing down. Because on that side, the tailgate slides inside the thing you clamped.

 

I know but I put the other one on to counterbalance the weight.

 

in that case you might wanna invest in a human dummy to saddle up next to you as a copilot

I put mine on the other day... thanks for the tip about getting the "key" off of the clamp. Was super quick to do. Been meaning to do it for quite awhile, just never got around to do it until then....

 

just installedmine last night!

 

I got the hose clamp and the pop&lock installed a while back. today i installed a door jam switch and connected it to my alarm which self arms incase i forget too. so if by chance the loser that tries to steals my tailgate actually gets past the hose clamp and pop&lock, the door jam switch will blast my alarm causing a scene and unwanted attention. i also alarmed by bakflip so anyone tries to pry it open will hear a loud blast. I know it may sound like overkill but hey, i only spent like $10 on switches and wires vs much much more if my tailgate gets jacked.

 

YAY 4 OVERKILL!!! Better to do more now than want it later when you're shelling out like $1,000 for a new tailgate.

 

I guess i'm an idiot i could not get the ends to meet to attach. Seems like there was not enough space to be able get the ends to meet. Am i doing something wrong?

 

I just unscrewed it all the way until it unwinds the end out. So it will look like one long piece. Dont unscrew it all the way so the screw comes out though. Then you feed it under and up the tailgate. Then u push the end up under the screw while turning and that should re-attach it again. Then tighten. Hope that helps. I dont have any pics

 

I unscrewed it all the way rather than taking my tailgate off. I just can't seem to get the ends to come together enough to screw back together.

 

if u say take the tailgate off then i dont think ur doing it right. You have to do it while the taligate is on. Look at the right bottom of the tailgate where it is attached to the bed. Do this while the tailgate is down. There is a small round metal attaching the tailgate to the bed. U put the clamp around that. and keep trying to attach the end you will get it eventually. If you have to, try just doing it in your hands first so you know what to do.

 

I got the ends to come together in my hands, retried it on the tailgate & the ends just will not meet. I cannot get the ends w/othe handle to come into the handle end, the clamp won't curve enough for the ends to meet. I had to reshape it when it was in my hands for the ends to come together. It just seems like there is not enough room between the tailgate & the bed for me push one end into the other.

 

yes, i got the pkg. just like in the video, used the large clamp.
