Last night for the 2nd time in 3 years, the tailgate was stolen off the back of my (locked) truck here in Long Beach.
Are there any after-market locks and car alarms y’all would suggest or have had good luck with?
We live in a nice neighborhood but apparently stolen cars, tailgates and of course catalytic converters theft is on the rise.

Appreciate the suggestion! It’s such a bummer that it happened.

Who is that TW member with a personal-designed solution? I cannot find it with a search.

So was the truck & tailgate locked, or just the truck?

@Out2gtcha both were locked. Our tailgate locks automatically when we lock the doors.

    Well shit!
That doesn't make me feel good.........
How are thieves removing a locked tailgate?

I've got a lock on mine plus an aluminum locking tannue and thought I'd be Ok.
I do have the best theft deterrent of all though, a garage.
I wouldn't feel as safe if theives are busting open locked tailgates. I thought it was mainly unlocked gates they were talking.

Mine is not electric, but have to lock it manually

I would suggest the shotgun on a fishing line security system. You likely need a snatch block and some duct tape.

    or

    fill the tailgate with concrete.

or** razor blades super glued where they handle it?

On a serious note, if you beat the shit out of your tailgate will you still be a target?

The other one requires pulling a "security bolt" that has a funny "reverse ratchet". Trying to pull it can rip the head of the bolt off.

That difficulty plus the "pay only through PayPal" (I do not have PayPal) sent me to SaBellCo. But funny ... even SaBellCo sends to a PayPal which begrudging offered a CC option. "I'm an old hippy and I don't know what to do ... should I hang on to the old? Should I grab on to the new?"

To the OP ... sorry it happened. I can only offer protection options in addition to condolences.

What a weird coincidence... someone near you has Tacoma tailgate(s) for sale. What are the odds. Everyone should just have 3 late model Tacoma tailgates laying around for sale. Tail gates - auto parts - by owner - vehicle automotive sale - craigslist

Unless you installed something aftermarket, I don't believe that feature was an option until 2020.

Wow... I bet if I asked the dude for a Barcelona red tailgate, he'd say, "Give me a few days."

I also went with the Sabellco, looks like a solid piece of theft deterrent.

OP, sorry some people are a**holes.
