Not sure what this piece is called. It fits on the tailgate.

Is that a theft prevention device?

 

I believe it is. I bought it 4 years ago and have never used it. I think a guy on this forum was selling them for about $30 bucks.

It is the anti-tailgate theft device. I have one on my truck and you'll need to extract one bolt off the tailgate in order to get it installed. The bad news is that Toyota used uber strong locktite on the bolt and will require a high amount of heat to get it to soften or melt in order to get the bolt off. Look through my build and you'll find a post or two about it.
