    I'd get a trailer, wouldn't risk it

The jack stands in the bed to take the weight off the gate sounds like a good idea

My truck doesn’t have a hitch receiver.
Have to check if there is a pre drilled hole in the metal bumper under the plastic for a ball

Get an 8 foot piece of 3/4 treated plywood and extend it over the tailgate. It will give enough support for hauling and loading.

Good point! That's a pretty tall overloaded weight too, impacting stability even more.
Big boy toys often have lots of costs.

Its probably fine as long as the battery weight isn't directly on the tailgate. But id only try it if a trailer isn't an option.

    But that's total Bro science.

    My Tacoma is a 2017 4cyl SR
It doesn’t have a hitch or trailer package
I looked under the rear bumper and there’s a hole in the steel crossmember that’s welded to the frame on both ends. The plastic bumper cover is hiding it.
I’m assuming I can drill from the bottom up through the plastic with a hole saw to put a ball on the bumper.
Has anyone ever done this ?

1000 lbs is too much weight in a Tacoma unless that is the only thing in the truck and the driver weighs 150lbs. Forget about the tailgate

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear (extended) shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier bearing drop kit, Aluminum 1/4" skids (engine to transfer). Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.

No, you can't just drill a hole in the thin bumper and add a ball mount. Buy the oem or an aftermarket hitch receiver. Reese is a good brand and it'll probably bolt on with either 4 or 6 bolts. $125~$150.

Here's a 1000 pounds in the bed. Winched up a ramp. The stock tailgate held up fine. The next time I did this though I added chains to support the cables because that seemed to be the weak part. I'll add a Mobtown tailgate skin too but the stock stuff did hold up.

Had my R6 on the tailgate for a 7 hour trip.

Probably won’t do that again due to the anxiety it caused, but it didn’t fail on me.

Definitely no. Did this with my old frontier. Tail gate ended up folding at the straps that hold it up. Wasn't super noticeable but it didn't close the same and you could see the seam from the outside. Would not do. Just rent a trailer or buy one. they are cheap.
