I think a golf cart is about 4x8 so it will need to go over the wheel-wells. Making it even more sketchy to load and higher up. OP you need to buy/rent a trailer.

I regularly tow a 5000 lb boat with another 1000 in the bed and NOTHING bad happened. People seem pretty scared to really use their trucks.

I snapped a tailgate cable loading a Honda Foreman 500 into the bed of my work truck (2017 GMC Sierra 1500). GMC said it "should not have broken". But it did... food for thought.

Cut a piece of plywood to fit in the bed and out over the tailgate. That will take a bunch of the weight off the gate.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Rent a uhaul trailer. They are like $20/day and easy to load.

I’m not sure of the max weight, but this is the strongest I can think of. Mobtown metal tailgate cover and chains instead of the thin cables.

    Tacoma tailgate weight limit:
Two big 'ol boys watching a mud bog.

Seriously, anything over 300 lbs on the tailgate bouncing down the highway is asking for bending. Plywood in the bed extending over the tailgate or a trailer.

Many people are saying don't do this or no way you should do that. Has anyone actually bent the tailgate or broken a cable on a third gen Tacoma? I know people have bent the thin supports under the plastic tailgate cover (hence the aftermarket metal skins) but hurt the actual tailgate?

Well, not indestructible after all. Maybe I'll add some extra reinforcement sooner now.

I’ve seen tailgates bent in the middle, but not on a 3rd Gen (so far anyway) Usually see the bent ones on old work trucks so who knows what, or how much weight was on them. I’ve never damaged one myself, and i’ve put a lot of heavy and sketchy loads in different trucks over the years.....
I’m around 285lbs and stand on my stock, 3rd Gen tailgate while loading a 450lb+ motorcycle and never think twice about it........

Slightly bent the tailgate on my 01 tundra loading a golf cart in the back, don’t do it, just rent a trailer......

I weigh 260 lbs (6'4") and I actually bent the sheet metal when standing on tailgate and holding 100lb metal jig while loading. I am basing my opinion on that situation. Yes, it was a point load (however many square inches my boot is) but still... it is designed for not heavy loads.

Maybe I'm looking at this wrong but how is that going to take a bunch of weight off the tailgate? Sure it will spread it more over the tailgate but actually take the weight off it? Maybe a small amount transfered to the bed but I see it just bending and not taking much weight off.

Think the only way this would help a lot (besides spreading the load) would be if the end was supported slightly above the tailgate. Like with a bed extender in the hitch. Or am I way off?
