In my case they didn't or wouldn't tell me beyond the need to replace the head and valves from cyl. 3

I'll tell you right now. You had exhaust valves on cyl 3 that were not sealing. I always used a leak down test to diagnose this. Then after I had the head off. I'd do the water test.

I knew that, however they did not, could not or would not say why the valve(s) failed. Or whether it was the valve, valve seat or something in the valve train that the leakage was caused by.

What a great contribution. It was funny the first time, it doesn’t need to be said in every post.

They love the phase "part out" so unless that gets you excited, nothing of value. I remember when TW was full of members that would offer valid advise. Now it seams everyone wants to be the funny guy or troll.

I was able to take the truck to my friend, who, is the best mechanic I have ever met or heard of.
I am fortunate to have such a friend. He can just about anything you want to have done to a vehicle. Rebuild a transmission or rebuild and engine on just about anything.. Two wheels or four(sleds too)
He said this is what is most likely the cause and suggested I take to the dealer. He said he could fix it, but it would be a very expensive repair.

I will be taking the truck to a local dealer. Not happy about it, but as everyone here suggested, it IS the only way out.
Dealer repair shops evolve, in with good and out with the bad, and vice versa. To me, unless you have an inside connection, which I don't it is a crap shoot.

I am in Central Massachusetts. If anyone has a recommendation, I am all ears.
Leaning towards Herb Chambers in Auburn. Been there once, service was satisfactory

Have you tried online reviews for dealership repair shops? Yes, they can be a crap shoot as well but at least its a start.

    Took it the dealer today.
They decided to keep my truck and gave me a ride home.
    No loaner.
And, said unless I can come up with some maintenance receipts I am on the hook for a $3k-4k job, even though the vehicles is less than three years old with less than 30k miles.

Bullshit. Call Toyota and open a case. You're UNDER WARRANTY for the power train (5/60) unless there has been some modification or previous damage to your truck. I'm subscribed to this now. This kind of shit pisses me off. I assume they're pointing to wanting to see receipts for oil and filters you purchased, etc...? (If you did your own maintenance).
