    Oh look, another mod....

That could be it, but from video's I've seen and other things I read, I don't think that makes a difference.

I am very sorry to hear this Jeff!

Oh man, that suck! - what aholes. I hope they get caught.
    Remember their shoes!

I'll also dust off my 30 year old CLUB.

On a completely separate note; I see many of my neighbors have them packed full of JUNK! I cannot stand it (Not implying that OP suffers from this condition!). I do not understand... The junk is un-useable as you cannot reach anything unless it is on the edge of the massive pile... What is the point people!

I see those pants riding way low and I want to give them a swift, hard kick in the nuts.

Sorry your truck was stolen OP. That really sucks.

Condolences OP, hopefully you get your truck back in one piece. Thieves suck.

Those were aftermarket, and not used by just GM. If I remember correctly, they were made by Locktronics. Us techs [and the sales folks] used to have "master keys" for those systems, which were red, instead of the uniquely-coded black keys that were given to the vehicle owner (if they paid to have the system when they bought the car). We used them at both the Chevy and Toyota dealers I've worked for, back in the day.

Pretty sure I still have one, in my toolbox somewhere. Never cared for the system, it was too easy to spot and bypass. Always appreciated using the cigarette lighter as a starter circuit disable instead.

I’ve had a rental or two that knew if the key was in the trunk and not the cabin.

I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't go off if you're sitting inside the truck with the smart key. Try again but have someone lock you into the truck and walk away with the key.

I have a conventional key, I'll give this a try. It definitely goes off if the front doors are opened. I'll try the back.

Sorry OP, I read an article a couple years ago about the Toyota smart key theft rings up there. That's ridiculous and for the amount of taxes you pay, y'all deserve to get a government that handles this sort of thing.

Of course I have a fob! I'm not one of those low-class key turning MANUAL transmission guys. Gah, those guys are the worst. :)

I'll try again tonight. I'll lock my neighbor in the truck and go inside my house so the key isn't within 50ft of the truck. Maybe it will go off? I'm skeptical though.

Prior to getting the Taco, I've had my early 2000s shitbox VW Jetta broken into, there was nothing to steal so they tossed all the shit from my glovebox everywhere in the car and left a stain (?) on my front passenger seat.

I assume it was Dirty Mike & the Boys but they didn't leave a thank you note.

Lots of special people in/around Montreal and Quebec in general. Avoid this place at all costs.
(I actually bought the Taco because the roads here are so unbelievably bad that you need a 4x4 off roading truck to get around town)

Sorry to hear about your experience OP. Vehicle security can only do so much and experienced thieves clearly learn the weaknesses of the systems. The approach I would consider is this... you have the security cameras, you have the outdoor lighting... what you might want to consider is an actual audible alert that would wake you up at night if there is movement in your driveway. Had you been alerted of the activity, you could have had ample time to call the cops or intervene yourself. Certainly enough so to scare them off. Just some ideas... and your experience has pushed me to consider doing similar for my own driveway.

I know that the rear doors DO set the alarm off.
Often, one of my boys wants to stay in the taco as we do a quick stop at the store. I lock the car when doing this (they are little guys). Occasionally, they open the door when they see us coming. And the alarm goes off even if opened from the inside.

    (I have a Manual Gearbox)

I am a little unclear on how they would try to boost your FOB signal... There is a way, with the key FOB in your house for them to "boost" it to unlock the car?

You have to wait for that
When you lock the doors with the remote the huge red lock symbol right above the passenger's temp control will light up solid. After set amount of time, it will start blinking. That is when you know it is active. Even with the fob inside your pocket and your ass in the back seat, if you so much as unlock any door, it will alarm. Ask me how I know the first time I did that at 3 AM in a crowded national park campground to go pee.
