Sucks this happened, hope they find it in one piece. A garage is a great solution, also you might want to put in a kill switch too...

I use something like this, but often there are two pouches in each case, and only one is the signal blocker (make sure you use the right pouch). You can also turn off the FOB by holding the lock and pushing unlock twice (the red light will flash 4 times), but this might only work for some keys.

I did this once on my 2021 but the alarm only went on for a split second. It immediately turned off and the drivers console display put up the message like "Key Fob Detected in Cab".

The alarm sets off the car horn - correct? Maybe a quick snip of that wire and there is no need to bypass until you are comfortably inside...

It might have been malfunctioning? Would explain why they took their sweet time and entering by the rear doors is probably co-rink-kee-dink. Sorry for the OP that he can't verify. Lesson for the rest of us to check for the red lock symbol to light up.

My truck has a key that you turn in order to start it, does this make it easier or harder to steal?

Interesting. I can't replicate that. Toyota has some explaining to do.

Edit: It could be Toyota correct the "bug" in my model year and implemented the "bug fix" in your model year.

I have no stats to back this up, but I would imagine that car thefts in general would be on the rise given the current situation with vehicle prices going through the roof with no endpoint in site.

I have set my alarm off a couple of times, with the window open an reaching in to open the door. It did it with the rear door and the front. I do have the dreaded do it yourself transmission. Regardless of which transmission you have that should not make a difference.

Out of curiosity, do all Tacoma's come with an alarm from factory? I know my windows have stickers saying Security or something or other...

As a victim of theft, I know how you're feeling.

I'd be pretty upset if my current truck was stolen. It's a rare configuration and I've meticulously maintained it for many years.

What about Toyota Connect? Can’t they track? I asked them if my truck were stolen can I call an activate their service to locate the truck and the told me- Yes. This way you don’t have to pay every month to get the benefit.

I vote harder. Without they key, they'll still need to overcome the physical locking of the steering column...

Modern day horse thievery is what it is. And this is what should be done with the perps once apprehended. :oldglory: (JMHO)

They will generally bust off the shark fin radio antenna so tracking is hard.

Hey - sorry. That sucks plain and simple. Thank you for posting and alerting TW. It is the motivation that I (and maybe others) need to make my Taco less easy to steal.

It happens. We stopped at a night club in montreal. When we left around 2 am our van was broken in...they only took the newest snowmobile gear, and left all the older stuff. It was the same years later getting breakfast at one of their big chicken restaurants along a major highway. Our guys had new enclosed trailers with new sleds in them. While we were eating thieves tried breaking in the trailers getting one open. Lucky someone saw, and reported it, all that was cut was a lock on the door. Imo, anytime you advertise stuff as such, you got guys cruising these places just looking to take it.
