Ask all the people who carried a handgun into Mexico how that went for them. I think even a large pocketknife is pushing your luck.

Statistically, the most intense interactions with people happens at immigration & customs. In most countries it's not a big issue, but this is where I've personally seen the most blatant forms of corruption.

I once was facing a huge fine for having a boxcutter in my checked luggage. Incidentally, that's the exact reason why my knife of choice is a boxcutter when traveling- it's disposable. The issue was dropped when I smiled real big, said sorry, and offered to toss it in the bin.

OP is well traveled, I'm sure he's seen what happens to the first-timers that try to interact with an attitude. When you are the foreigner, you don't have the drop on anybody. Your weapons consist of saying sorry, smiling while playing dumb, or running away. Your best weapon is to recognize and avoid in the first place.

Any other form of self defense is asking to be locked up abroad.

    Like, so many.
The Road Chose Me was going to go diesel for that reason, but he ended up with gas and hasn’t had an issue and he’s DEFINITELY in 3rd world countries. I think there may have been one time when gas was scarce, but he’s managed just fine.

Yeah, gasoline is everywhere. So is diesel. And any fuel in a shady area can be contaminated, diesel or gas. I’ve never had a problem.

I did not read all the post, so not sure this was discussed. You should use steel wheels on all five tires. Steel wheels can be hammered or welded, alloy much harder to fix.

I hear you about the Pullpal mounting issue. First, I had the bright idea of mounting mine underneath the bed, but it sucks to get out when buried in sand or the mud! Then I got lazy and just put it in the bed, but it definitely takes too much room. So now I just mount it with my winch (I have a receiver mounted winch) when I have it, and leave it at home with my winch when I don’t need it.

As for the deadman anchor, yes it would be a very good thing to have in soft areas, and you can also use the spare to do the same thing with a “bit“ more work, but neither will work as well or as fast as a pullpal when the ground is hard.

I’d guess the OP is going to have whatever he is comfortable with, gun or knife or whatever.

Also in regards to “survival skills,” there really isn’t any real Liam Neeson’s out there. Most without the training cause more problems and end up in worse situations.

Those that do have the training probably understand it’s better to just let them take what they are after unless it is a legitimate life or death situation.

Even the ones that might be trained are likely out numbered.

Good idea. Next summer will plan on "short 2 week" trips for a shakedown.

I agree! As much as I would like to pack my 44 mag desert Eagle or my 40 cal sig sauer they're peashooters compared to an AK not to mention several. Assuming I could find/construct a hidey spot that is quickly accessible, its better to smile and run, I've done it. Going to bring something but not a firearm.

Good thinking. Been trying to find them but they're heavy and may cause problems for the (TPMS?) electronics I've heard. Also I simply can't find any. The only good thing is that the hilux has almost the identical offset, stud pattern etc.

I didn’t read all of the posts. I’m sure many good suggestions but if it were me I’d get more comfortable seats/s. Maybe take them to an upholstery shop to get more cushion added to the seats. Good luck and have fun!

Any ideas where I can get some 16" steel rims that will fit over the brakes? Like to sell my fancy rims? Also like to trade out of hood with the fake hood scoop. Trying to keep the truck low key, hence the boring white color, hoping that some people think we're apart of the UN. Not trying to knock people with white trucks, just not normally my thing

Not quite what you might be looking at for advice but I thought it was really neat.
Met him in Whitehorse, Yukon. He was drawing in the trail he had taken.
